Salary Range $54,361.60 - $67,952.00
This is an exempt (salaried) position. Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity. Internal equity considerations include an assessment of the applicant’s salary history and qualifications in comparison to the market rate and requirements for the job.

The North County Regional Library, located in Huntersville, NC, is a dynamic hub serving the thriving Huntersville area. Position Summary:
The Adult Services Librarian will lead workforce development initiatives for the North County Regional community, supporting customers in developing employment, business, and digital literacy skills through programs, classes, and one-on-one assistance. This position performs professional and technical library work in Adult Services and is responsible for assisting customers in accessing a wide range of resources in multiple formats—print, digital, and media. The Librarian works within the branch team to create a welcoming and engaging environment for all. This position leads age-appropriate programs for teens, emerging adults, adults, and seniors. Some responsibilities may include teaching digital literacy classes, technology tutoring, resume workshops, book clubs, and other required relevant programs.

Programming – The Adult Services Librarian plans, facilitates, and evaluates programs that promote workforce readiness, support business development, vulnerable communities and lifelong learning for adults and senior adults. The librarian collaborates with community partners to design outreach and learning opportunities that strengthen employability and digital skills while also supporting branch-wide adult programming goals.

Leadership – The Adult Services Librarian provides leadership in workforce programming, offering training and mentorship to staff on business and digital literacy services. This position works closely with Access Services and other departments to ensure high-quality service delivery, develops community partnerships, and identifies outreach opportunities that expand library impact. The librarian may support volunteer coordination and supports branch management as Manager on Duty.
Through collaboration, innovation, and community engagement, the Adult Services Librarian contributes to a welcoming and supportive environment that promotes personal growth, career advancement, and lifelong learning for all library customers.

Essential Functions:
  • Meet customers' informational, research, and pleasure reading needs by matching requests to appropriate resources.
  • Determine the timeliest, authoritative, and appropriate information source for each customer, based on questions asked, the information required, and the format (print, non-print) that provides the most effective delivery.
  • Train customers in the use of electronic reference resources, internet searches, e-books, and digital downloads; provide guidance and instruction for both general and specific requests.
  • Enable customers to operate PCs, tablets, and mobile devices to access digital materials.
  • Troubleshoot problems or instruct customers in the use of software and hardware; assess the level of instruction needed to use technology.
  • Manage and maintain library materials in specific, assigned areas of the collection by noting community needs and customer requests, consulting reviews and bibliographies, checking lost and missing reports, and recommending purchases.
  • Perform relevant collection management tasks to ensure that resources are available to meet the informational and recreational needs of the community.
  • Provide quality programming for a targeted audience; create promotional materials and merchandise the collection with displays.
  • Develop varied and creative programs, publications, and displays to enhance library services.
  • Continue professional development through workshops, classes, webinars, conferences, and retreats; request marketing assistance as needed.
  • Choose activities to enhance or develop skills needed to meet professional or learning goals.
  • Perform administrative duties that may include serving as Manager on Duty, scheduling employees, submitting maintenance and IT tickets, dealing with customer concerns, and reserving spaces.
  • Exercise sound judgment and use available resources to determine the action needed.
  • Increase the reach of programs and services to adults and senior adults from underrepresented and underserved groups.

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum of two years of public library experience

Education:
Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution
Licenses and Certifications:
  • NC Public Library certification required or must be obtained within 12 months of hire

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching or conducting programs related to workforce or business-related skills
  • Experience working with adults and senior adults
  • Experience organizing large-scale programs or events
  • Experience collaborating with organizations and team members and evaluating programs and services
  • Experience designing programs and outreach services for vulnerable populations
  • Ability to train customers in the use of electronic reference resources, internet searches, e-books, and digital downloads; provide guidance and instruction for both general and specific requests
