About the team The Risk Foundations team is responsible for helping design the systems and processes that enable Stripe to manage merchant Credit risk accurately and at scale. We partner closely with Stripe's Engineering, Data Science, Product, and Operations teams to evolve and up-level our end-to-end ecosystem of credit risk management tooling and capabilities. What you’ll do Stripe handles billions of dollars every year for businesses around the world, and the Risk team plays a critical role in the company’s financial and partnership success. As a Strategist on the Risk Foundations team, you will help manage a rapidly growing merchant portfolio by guiding Stripe’s credit strategy and devising growth-friendly solutions that reduce overall credit risk. This is a high impact role that involves cross-functional partnership with Data Science, Engineering, Product, and Operations. Responsibilities • Support the credit risk management efforts on a portfolio of millions of new and existing small to enterprise-sized businesses • Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Data Science to develop an LLM agent driven system for automating decisioning workflows, augmenting investigations, generating explainable insights, and enabling data retrieval and synthesis across internal and external sources • Leverage your analytical skills to provide credit risk recommendations, deliver insights, and support strategic business decisions • Refine tools and processes to help the group deliver on key performance indicators • Analyze account activity and monitor portfolio trends to identify opportunities for Stripe to reduce potential credit losses • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to scale tailored credit risk management techniques across different geographies, industries, and business models • Help drive a risk-centric approach to innovating Stripe’s products and infrastructure • Challenge the payments industry status quo to help enable innovative businesses to flourish online Who you are We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. Minimum requirements • 6+ years of relevant professional experience • Strong technical expertise, including intermediate SQL skills and direct experience in applying these skills to provide insights and drive recommendations • Self-starter who can work independently and can proactively identify gaps, create solutions and drive adoption and scale • Demonstrated curiosity and problem solving mindset • Passion for tackling complex problems using data and identifying root cause • Decisive, yet open to learning: you will make many critical decisions every day impacting large numbers of merchants. You are willing to make these difficult decisions and quickly learn and iterate from these experiences. • Understanding and empathetic to the challenges of setting up a new business: You will thoughtfully balance scaled enforcement decisions with user experience. • Analytical: You are passionate about data analysis and can frame business decisions and tradeoffs effectively through quantitative analysis and visualization. • An excellent communicator and team player: You are able to convey complex ideas succinctly and work effectively across teams. • Effective in managing projects: You have demonstrated project-management skills and the ability to drive execution on impactful, cross-functional projects.
