European Partnerships Manager, Europe (remote)

About Viamo

Mobile technology is revolutionizing how organizations engage with their end users. More than 96% of the world’s population has access to a mobile phone, meaning it is now possible to reach nearly every single person on the planet. Yet 3 billion people living in emerging markets still lack access to relevant, timely, and engaging information in their local languages, and their voices remain underheard. The organizations that serve them lack the technology and capacity to reach them, and many are unaware of the power of mobile technology to meet their organizational goals.

Viamo connects individuals and organizations using digital technology to make better decisions.

With more than 30 million people reached in 2020 alone, we are well on our way to meeting our goal of reaching 50 million people annually by 2023.

About the role

The goal of the European Partnerships Manager is to support Viamo’s new business development efforts on funding from bilateral European donors and the European Union institutions such as the EC and ECHO, in particular larger proposals with large implementing organizations and consortia leaders.

Viamo, a global social enterprise, already has a successful track record with international development donors such as USAID, FCDO and the UN. We launched a European Partnerships team in 2020 and are entering an exciting time with European donors and expect to respond to multiple funding opportunities. The role will support Viamo to build a strong platform with key European donors such as Netherlands, France and Sweden and their implementing INGO and commercial primes and become the de facto mobile engagement service provider for international development projects.

This position is to be based somewhere in the European Union with good travel connections; candidates are expected to hold a valid work permit for the EU and when COVID-19 restrictions allow, be willing to travel within Europe and beyond as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain Key Accounts with key European donors and, more so, the business development teams of their implementing INGO and commercial primes. This might include participating in or organizing events
  • Convince the relevant decision-makers to include mobile engagement programming and Viamo’s services as a core component of their project design and proposals
  • Lead the proposal development process for large-scale European funded opportunities within Viamo, in collaboration with the Director of European Partnerships, Regional Directors and our 25+ Country Managers; support with FCDO submissions if needed
  • Work with partners to design scalable, sustainable, and effective mobile engagement projects. This includes building relationships, co-designing projects, preparing budgets, and writing concept notes
  • Become a thought leader within and outside the organization in terms of mobile engagement
  • Help represent Viamo at relevant events and conferences in Europe in coordination with the Director of European Partnerships and the UK Partnerships Manager
  • Provide line management to junior support staff

Key Performance Indicators

● Bookings: Value of secured partnerships

● Revenue: Value of facilitated introductions for in-country teams

Team and Reporting Structure

  • Reports to Viamo’s Director of European Partnerships
  • Line manages junior support staff if available (for example, interns)

Profile

Required

  • Strong relationship manager and people person with an extensive network of contacts within the European international development sector, particularly with implementation partners
  • Proven experience in early capture of European (i.e. Dutch, French, Nordics, Swiss etc. + EC/ ECHO) opportunities and in pre-positioning as a junior consortium partner/ sub before tenders are launched
  • 5+ years experience pursuing European-funded international development projects including the submission and securing of multiple contracts and grants
  • A good understanding of the requirements of key European donors, European procurement rules and experience developing budgets for European donors
  • Passion for the role of mobile technology in international development
  • Ability to design and articulate, both in writing and in-person, sector-specific (e.g. health, agriculture, education) value propositions for mobile engagement
  • Superb collaboration skills and experience working cross-departmentally to achieve shared goals, including through leadership without authority
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and comfortable working with remote teams, startups, and/or social enterprises.

Desirable

  • Experience pursuing DFID/FCDO- and DFAT-funding
  • Good understanding of GDPR implications
  • French language skills
