Please do not contact the recruiter directly. </em> <br><br></strong><strong>Job Description<br><br></strong><strong>The role<br><br></strong><strong><em>We are currently recruiting for 1 x Proof Reader for the day shift (09:00-17:00), please only apply if you can work this shift. This is a part time position 2 days per week, not freelance.<br><br></em></strong><strong><em>Due to the nature of this role, it is recognised that it can be performed mostly remotely with the expectation of coming into the Newcastle office as business needs require.<br><br></em></strong>A position has arisen for a Proofreader within the Global Business Support Document Production team (GBS DP), supporting all Practice Areas and Global offices. This position requires someone with previous business experience, who is self-motivated, shows initiative with little supervision and can concentrate for lengthy periods of time on repetitive tasks.<br><br>The purpose of this role is to proofread documents marked-up by lawyers or amended by the Document Production Specialists (DPSs) in GBS DP.<br><br>The successful candidate will be responsible for proof reading documents to the specification requested by either a lawyer or a DPS. They will also need to liaise closely with the Workflow Client Specialists (WCSs) at front desk, and Managers to ensure lawyer deadlines are met.<br><br><strong>Key Responsibilities<br><br></strong>The Proofreader reports to the GBS Document Production Management team and is expected to create a positive working relationship with team members in their group. The Proofreader is expected to lead on workflow management of the tasks in house on a daily basis, working alongside the WCSs to prioritise/provide estimates and deadlines.<br><br><strong>Proof Reading and Administration<br><br></strong>Providing an accurate and high-quality proofreading service to fee earners.<br><br>Working on all profiles for proof reading, checking the quality and integrity of documents including: amendments, word-for-word, copy types, format checking conversions into Clifford Chance house style, book-reads, cross-referencing of clauses, and defined terms checks.<br><br>To independently spot ambiguities and problems with sense, spelling, punctuation, style and grammar regardless of the brief given and highlight such findings to the lawyer.<br><br>To independently ensure that all Clifford Chance documents are presented in the correct house style regardless of the brief given and inform the lawyer of anything that does not follow best practice.<br><br>Manage jobs via the WCSs and the shared Proofing distribution list and prioritise based on work booked in advance and agreed deadlines, regardless of the job profile.<br><br>Communicate regularly with WCSs in relation to workload, deadlines and assistance, taking into consideration any time constraints and providing estimates and deadlines to jobs submitted.<br><br>Work with proof reading software 'Contract Companion' to ensure best added value results are returned to the lawyer.<br><br>Ensuring the accurate use of the workflow system, ServiceNow.<br><br>Working seamlessly with the Firm's document management system iManage for all document retrieval and return to the system.<br><br>Ensure any task handovers are completed in detail and accurately to ensure a continuous, seamless service.<br><br><strong>Team support<br><br></strong>Working collaboratively with team members to ensure the provision of first class support services to fee earners across GBS, including remote colleagues based in Delhi, Hyderabad, Newcastle and London.<br><br>Establish, maintain and develop effective communication with team/colleagues globally.<br><br>Complete any ad-hoc duties as requested by line management.<br><br><strong>Client Focus<br><br></strong>Delivery of exceptional customer service, portray a proactive, friendly, helpful, willing and efficient attitude at all times.<br><br>Leading as first point of contact on client communications (queries, discussing projects/work and returning completed jobs) and extending information to WCSs and GBS DP Management team as required.<br><br>Ensuring timely, efficient and accurate communications with clients.<br><br><strong>Working Relationships<br><br></strong>Proofreader's success will be dependent on the positive and collaborative working relationships which they build with colleagues.<br><br><strong>The Key Working Relationships For a Proofreader Will Be<br><br></strong><ul><li>Fee earners to whom they provide first-line support</li><li>Global Business Service Team Members (inc. remote working Delhi/Hyderabad/Newcastle/London)</li><li>All Business Professional services<br><br></li></ul>Liaise with lawyers, practice assistants, trainees, paralegals and DP staff regarding document deadlines, workflow estimations, including current and expected workloads. You will also ensure that "Best Practice" guidelines are adhered to at all times, and will liaise with other teams to achieve common business objectives.<br><br><strong>Qualifications<br><br></strong><strong>Skills & Experience<br><br></strong><ul><li>A very good command of the English language, written (including spelling) and verbal are essential</li><li>A keen eye for detail, self-motivated, with precision focus</li><li>Must have very good PC skills to include a good working knowledge of the most common Microsoft applications: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Also experience of working with Document Management and Job Logging systems as well as Adobe PDF for scanning</li><li>Strong communication skills are vital as you will be dealing with lawyers, partners, practice assistants, trainees, paralegals and various support staff regularly</li><li>Can demonstrate experience of using own initiative / judgement</li><li>Have previous experience of working in a team</li><li>Have experience of working to deadlines, prioritising a busy workload and working under pressure, especially when working alone or during the closing of deals</li><li>Must have two years solid Proofreading experience</li><li>Previous experience within a legal environment would be an advantage</li><li>Flexibility of working hours is required, driven by workload volumes<br><br></li></ul><strong>Client Focus<br><br></strong>At Clifford Chance, we believe in bringing the client - both internal and external - to the centre of everything we do.
