About the team and role: Recommendations on Ancestry help people make unique and powerful discoveries about their family. The Recommendations team focuses on enhancing and expanding the ways recommendations guide people to:

As a Senior Technical Product Manager on this team, you will improve and diversify our Recommendations Engine, infusing integrated machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) models into the Ancestry's Recommendations Platform. You will create ever increasing customer value through one of the world's most unique data sets. You will work with industry-leading data scientists and engineers to make the Ancestry experience faster, easier, and more fun, uncovering unique discoveries about our users and their families.

This position can be based in either the Lehi, UT or San Francisco, CA offices. We are currently 100% remote, but our offices are currently open for employees who wish to work onsite on a voluntary basis.

What you will do:

  • With a deep understanding of our current recommendations platform, its customers, and the engine that powers it, you will work with our Data Science team to build a long term roadmap and champion our customers' needs at all times
  • Create and evangelize the Recommendations Platform vision and roadmap and coordinate with cross-domain partners to execute. This highly iterative process requires synthesizing qualitative and quantitative research and consumer insights into high impact platform functionality.
  • Collaborate with data scientists to define functional and system requirements for integration of ML/AI models into the Recommendation Engine
  • Essentially, you are our Recommendations Platform and Engine technical product expert.
Who you are:
  • You totally understand how knowledge graph data science and have successfully partnered with Data Science to deliver ML/AI based products.
  • You know how to prioritize product features with data science and engineering to design sophisticated algorithms that deliver loads of high quality data mined content. You smile with every joyful exclamation of “Wow, I never knew that about my family!” knowing it's because of what you and this team are delivering is making a difference in their lives
  • You are a “let's get this done” technical product manager. You most likely were an engineer or a data scientist in your previous roles. You may be a senior product owner or product savvy engineer today. At least, 5+ years defining and delivering ML/AI based recommendation engines or data products
  • You know how to work with and deploy complex software systems, really large data sets, and absolutely understand machine learning based products
  • You can present complex information so everyone in the room understands the product vision and how we are going to get there
  • More than anything, you pride yourself on consistently delivering through highly engaged partnerships and collaboration with your colleagues, saying what you do and doing what you say. You are driving this bus and you got this!
